As a professional newborn photographer I go with the flow. I do consult with parents ahead of time about props and colors as well as my workflow. I also provide a detailed what to expect session guide. There are a few ways to get baby to sleep.

Shooting between 10 and 14 days old, keeping my studio very warm, using white noise, wrapping baby comfortably and a lot of shooshing and rocking.

These two kiddos are super cute and so are their mom and dad. This family fall session was taken out at Saddle Ridge Estates. Fall is my favorite time of year to shoot families and an evening sunset is the absolute best time for that sun kissed look!

Plenty of family snuggles and keeping warm by doing jumping jacks in between, this session had be working!

After so many years of marriage and a hard divorce I was more than thrilled to hear she had met someone wonderful and is extremely happy! Michelle and her new boyfriend Justin came our to see me at saddle ridge estates.

The intent of this session was just to laugh and be natural. I asked them to do a bunch of silly stuff which just made them giggle and laugh. It was so much fun. I am really diggin that natural unposed stiff part of sessions. I think all sessions should be fun. Not only are the photos great to look at, but you should also remember the experience as well!

It's a lot of work to coordinate, but the memories are worth it. When planning on what to wear for extended family sessions I always say stay away from hats, bright colors, lots of patterns and don't dress the same. Everyone in the same color t shirt with jeans is boring and out dated!

I like to capture each couple and with their kids, grandparents with grand kids, brothers, sisters, and the whole gang.

We had this session at Saddle Ridge Estates and included an old 50's truck. I love this truck and incorporate it into many sessions!

As a professional newborn photographer, newborn safety during a session is number 1 priority. I never put a baby's comfort or safety at risk just for a shot. These rules are posted in my studio for parents to see.

Below are a few studio rules that I follow so rest assured your little one is in great hands!

Number 1

I always wear my camera strap around my neck. My cameras and the variety of lens's I have are very heavy and made of hard material. This way equipment will never fall onto baby. I always take my camera off each time I am posing baby as I am careful my camera doesn't bump or swing onto baby. I have been known to lose my camera in this process!

Number 2

We never leave baby unattended. If I need to grab a wrap or something I ask the parents to grab it or I have them spot baby while I am getting needed items. This also includes having mom or dad be a spotter for some shots. Baby's have startling reflexes and we avoid falls at all times.

Number 3 

We always support baby's head and neck. You are also told this in the hospital, but baby's heads are larger and heavier and they have not built up the strength their necks to control them. I also make sure when posing their neck isn't too far back which puts pressure on their delicate spine or too far forward that puts pressure on their esophagus. Some of my photos are composites which means I take a few pictures with mom or dad holding the head or neck and then I use Photoshop magic to remove those hands!

Number 4

I never force a bay into a pose and I watch their circulation. Baby's are like us and everyone has a different level of flexibility. I also don't want to unsettle baby so If I see they are moving or making faces, starting to cry in a pose I move them right away into a more comfortable pose. I also watch for limbs and color. If a baby's feet is turning purple, the circulation is being cut off or is very limiting so I move them into a different pose or make adjustments.

Number 5

I avoid fall risks. I have a variety of lens that allow me to zoom out when shooting right above a baby so I don't need to stand on anything. This is for my safety, but also for your baby's safety.

Number 6

I have a prop addiction and always adding to my extensive collection! I use safe props. My props are chosen for safety and the right size for baby. I love vintage props, but I carefully inspect them for splinters, nails, made of glass or anything that could hurt a baby.  I have lots of soft materials that I use to make the prop comfortable and I also use weights at the bottom of some props so baby is more secure.

It was a hot sunny day at the Saskatoon river where we did these sessions. Models came ready with beach wear and we had a lot of fun. It can be challenging shooting in direct sunlight but I think our final images look amazing! Make up was provided again by Glam by Breanne and as always provides an awesome experience for her clients!

Shooting twins is double the work, but double the snuggles. We used neutrals of grey and white and a variety of studio props. Newborn safety is key and with twins even more so. Mom and grandma were great help at spotting!

The results are stunning!

For this session we used browns, greens  and blues with dramatic black and white images. I love neutrals, but hints of shades of blues for baby boys looks warm and cozy!

I have booked grad sessions for small schools and for individual sessions! I absolutely love taking grad photos. Everyone looks their best and there is such an excitement in the air! Baby Isaiah and family came to visit me in my studio. He slept like an angel for me. That's the thing using props and wraps, it relaxes baby and I can get so many options without disturbing their sleep!

I was excited to have her in my studio as I had bought a bunch of new props and had knitted lots of new bump and throw blankets. It took about half and hour to settle and wrap her before she fell asleep. Once asleep We got a variety of prop shots. We then took a feeding and change break before moving her to my brand new bed from JJ Woodco! It ended up being a 4 hour session, but well worth the time and patience!

As a portrait photographer I am able to work with folks who are not always comfortable in front of a camera. We discuss wardrobe and what the end vision will be. We take our time in getting you comfortable in front of the camera, and I provide a variety of support for poses to make it feel natural. The end results are images that capture you, your brand to your business and name.

Thanks to Nicole who came to my studio. Hair and make up done as I think this is such an important investment when getting professional photos takes. 

Numa modelling agency approached me to do another creative shoot for portraits with their models. Although we had to do clothing changes in the car and an occasional warm up with the heat on, despite some cold weather it was well worth it. Our session took place in Saskatoon's President Murray Park, it's tall evergreens makes the perfect location for this theme.

Thanks to Michaela MacDonald a local freelance make up artist for providing the beautiful look for the girls. As always she provides such a great experience!

When new parents come into the studio, I am always appreciative of how they look like this is something that they have always done. Dads changing diapers, mom feeding, changing, undressing and dressing baby, settling baby and having some much needed down time on my couch. 

Emma was a doll in her black hair and chubby cheeks! 

As a professional newborn photographer in Saskatoon, I pride myself in just going with the flow of the baby. The studio is warm, cozy and inviting. It is a relaxing and stress free environment I have carefully created for my clients and little clients. 

I chose a variety of white and cream colors and props. FOCUS is on baby and these images are timeless. I am always on the hunt for simple and soft props to add variety while keeping with my simplistic and minimal style.

Luca snuggled right into the little white teddy bear and was a dream to pose on my bean bag. 

I invested in a variety of maternity gowns that flatter a woman's figure as she is expecting. Pregnant mommas are glowing and beautiful and I love capturing this unique experience for women!

Thank you to Terra and her family for coming into my home studio and allowing me to photograph this special time. Terra looked gorgeous in different gowns, so we photographed a variety. I love using natural light as well as soft studio light.

I have taken hours of online courses to learn about newborn posing, safety, creating a warm and cozy environment and creating my style of minimal timeless newborn photography.

I like to photograph babies between the 8-15 days old when they are their sleepiest, but sometimes babies have it their own way during a session and I go with the flow. Harper was wide awake for the first hour of her session. Sometimes when babies leave the house for the first time, its a new experience for them and they love to look around! Eventually I got her settled and took some beautiful photos of this little angel.

Sam wore a stunning one piece red jumper and black jacket with black boots and for a second look we switched to a brown sweater dress with a brown leather jacket. It was a bit windy, but we went with it to make it work. The results are beautiful! Numa and I are planning our next development shoot, a evergreen winter wonderland!

This expecting momma is glowing. Her friend Lindsey was able to do hair and make up. It's so important to invest in professional hair and make up to look and feel gorgeous for your session! What momma doesn't deserve some self care and pampering!

When I asked this group about a preferred location, the Saskatoon Meewasin trail is a place where they have taken many family walks, including a family proposal 20 years ago!

When it comes to what to wear with large groups it's best to keep it to a few coordinating colors like blue, grey and pink like this family. Best to stay away from labels and crazy patterns.

This family was so much fun to work with. Candace and I actually go way back, over 10 years ago when we both worked for the Saskatoon Public School system. It's always an honor to photograph extended family sessions, plus her parents were celebrating 50 YEARS! She mentioned that their family had never had professional photos done. I was glad to have captured this special anniversary and their families memories!

Elisha made the trip down from Regina just for our session. The family looked sharp dressed in white and blue.

The boys were energetic to say the least.

When photographing, kids it's best just to go with the flow. Our session included playing toilet tag, hip checks, a farting contest and cuddles with mom. I think the results are stunning and so is this momma. The love that this mom has for her little boys is obvious!

We took these photos on our acreage, complete with horses in the distance, fences, long grass, our rock wall and plenty of space to run free. It's a perfect setting for active kids!

We started off at Boffins Club, one of my favorite places. She was even able to borrow grandpas new car for some shots! We then headed to downtown Saskatoon to get some very cool graffeti shots! The result, PERFECT! Congratulations Kyla and good luck with your future adventure!

When taking photos of a little one, they are not always cooperative so you just go with the flow!

The result... spontaneous laughter, games, smiles and memories captured!

When Numa Modelling agency approached me to assist them with their model test shoots I jumped at the opportunity. I am always looking to network and make connections and a models test shoot is usually their very first experience in front of a camera. These shots were taken in my home studio and thanks to Tammie Lynn with Think Brows Etc. for the on site makeup for the day! The images turned out great and each model had a wonderful experience! I think headshots don't always need to be serious, just seriously FUN!

Future work will include more newborns, 6 month and 1 year old sessions! On May 12th I am hosting Mommy and me mini sessions! Thanks to Bonnie and Emma for being my models! 

Bonnie and Jon are a beautiful couple and I have enjoyed seeing them numerous times over the last couple years for documenting their lifestyle milestones! Their 6 month old daughter Emma is hilarious. She loves to smile, laugh and make funny faces. I am sure as Emma grows up she and her parents will treasure these photos!

Locations are always fun to explore with formal wear. From nature to stairs and even downtown sidewalks and bricks. I was very happy the way our session turned out!

Emily wore a stunning two piece gown. Her white lace crop top accentuated a long flowing beautiful flowered skirt. Even in the dingy back alley of downtown Saskatoon, she looks beautiful in this dress!

Studio Marie is located just off the entrance to our bungalow. White, bright, modern and classic, perfect for newborn, family and portraits. Double french doors, sitting area, work area and shooting area with plenty of space to make sessions comfortable. 

LOCATION is key when you want to capture your love story. Do you have a special place? Maybe where you had your first date? Where he proposed? Where you knew you were in love? That special place that is yours....

Newly engaged Megan and Steven headed out with me on a cold and snowy Saskatchewan day in January. Both once students at the beautiful U of S campus, it was a perfect location for their special day. In 2017 they took a family trip and adventure to CHINA where they found and purchased their single pearl engagement ring. STUNNING!!!! Scroll down to check out their session!

It was hard to keep this shoot a secret, but now that the cat's out of the bag I am excited to share and blog about this session. This adorable couple travelled out to my new and beautiful home studio on our acreage estate. We brainstormed Pinterest ideas, props and fun poses to capture this momentous occasion!

My partner Tony and I were building our home on our acreage just 7 minutes out of the city and when she asked if I could suggest any locations, I was eager to start shooting at our acreage. 4 acres of trees, ponds and rolling hills make our acreage a PERFECT location!

I always encourage couples to bring some props to a session, from the ultrasound photo, little booties or a cute baby outfit. Each session we personalize and tell your new family story.
